School of Electronic Engineering

The predecessor of the School of Electronic Engineering was the Department of Radar Engineering of the Communications Institute of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army established under the leadership of two famous experts in electronic system, Academicians Sun Junren and Bi Dexian. In June, 1999 the original School of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Telecommunications Engineering, and the Institute of Antennas merged into the present School of Electronic Engineering. At present, it has over 3600 undergraduates, over 2000 master degree seeking students and over 300 doctoral candidates.
The School has a wide discipline coverage and is strong in teaching staff. It has formed a high-level school running system and shows apparent school running superiority and features. Currently, it has 284 teachers, of whom there is 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 52 advisors of PhD candidates, 2 national-grade famous teachers, and 3 national-grade experts with outstanding contributions, with teachers holding the PhD degree exceeding 52% the total number of its teachers.

The School has set up 7 specialties for undergraduates: electronic information engineering, biomedical engineering, information countermeasure technology, detection guidance & control technology, intelligent science & technology, electromagnetic field & antenna technology, and remote sensing science & technology; 6 doctoral programs such as signal and information processing, etc.; 11 master programs such as circuit and system, etc.; 3 national-grade key disciplines, of which the two disciplines “signal and information processing” and “circuit and system” have been assessed as the first place in China, with the discipline “EM field and microwave technology” assessed as the fifth place, all these three disciplines having the chair professorship under the Cheung Kong Scholar’s Program and postdoctoral programs. The School has two national key laboratories: the Key Laboratory of Radar Signal Processing and the Key Laboratory of Antenna and EM Scattering; the national teaching base: the Electrical and Electronic Teaching Base; and the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Intelligent Sensing and Image Understanding. The discipline “intelligent information processing science and technology” is the talents recruiting base of the National Innovative Talents Recruiting Program (the 111 Program).
